Also I personally wonder why they don’t make a 16GB iPod Touch, it would be successful. I have already used more than 8GB of storage on my 16GB iPhone 3G (mainly music and apps), and I won’t use as much any more, so other users out there who do the same as me should be offered the option of having a 16GB iPod Touch, rather than spending an extra £50/$70 for four times the storage, most of which won’t be used. I mean, yes, there are people who will buy the 64GB version and will soon fill it, there’s someone at my school (I’m 12) who has over 1000 albums (at least 10,000 songs) on their iPod Classic!!! In case you’re interested, here’s a list of how many songs will fit in different capacities:
These results are assuming all songs are in 128-bit AAC format (which they probably will be)
As I’m sure you all know, the iPod Touch 4G has been released (I think!). This ‘iPhone 4-style’ iPod Touch is almost exactly the same as an iPhone 4, except it has no phone functionalities in it. I’m not sure if it has GPS or a compass in it, but my bets are that it has. The iPod Touch 4G is being shipped running iOS 4.1 out of the box. iOS 4.1 I think has been released, with definite speed increases on the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. See this video for a speed test:
It’s software differences are:
It’s got the Game Center (game centre for us UK people)
It has a FaceTime app (because you can’t ring people to tap the FaceTime option)
It’s got the three-axis gyro as well as the acceloremeter featured in the iPhone 4. It’s also got a bit lighter, now weighing 101g instead of the iPod Touch 3G’s 115g. Amazing when you think that they’ve added 2 cameras, a microphone, more RAM (we think), a higher resolution screen (which is also LED backlit) and a faster processor! Here’s a full comparison list.
Hey iOS 4.0.2 was also released a while ago solely to fix the security patch that jailbreakme and thunderst0rm used.
Don’t update, unless you have an iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2G. iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 can’t be jailbroken on iOS 4.0.2. iDevices are now being shipped with 4.0.2 out of the box. I think you can downgrade using tinyumbrella, I will post instructions eventually for this
Apple released iOS 4.0.1 today. It’s mainly to fix an issue with the iPhone 4′s reception, but it’s still worth updating because iOS 4.0 will be made redundant eventually. But there’s no rush to update! You can only jailbreak it if you have an iPhone 3G, not a 3GS or a 4. Sometimes I’m glad I don’t have a new iPhone!
